Mom

Not every woman bears a child.
Not every child is blessed with a loving mother.
I was lucky.  God blessed me with you.
You didn't have to give me birth.
You didn't have to love me once you did.
You made a choice to give life, and
After doing so, to treasure and nurture that life.

You respected the sacred trust God placed in you.
You cared for me, nurtured me, disciplined me,
Taught me life, and loved me unconditionally.
I owe you a debt that I can never repay.
I owe you my respect, my unconditional
Love in return, my life itself.
I owe you more than mere words can say.

No, not every woman bears a child.
Not every child is blessed with a loving mother.
I was lucky.  God entrusted me to someone special -
A mother who cared for me, nurtured me,
Taught me life, and loved me in spite of my faults.
And to God, and to you, Mom,
I will forever be grateful.
